Vasu Abhiraman is Senior Policy Counsel & Deputy Director of Policy and Advocacy, leading the affiliate’s Voter Access Project. A Georgia native, former software engineer, and attorney, Vasu is a longtime advocate and organizer for voter rights. He has co-founded multiple efforts focused on fighting voter suppression including the Reeb Project, a faith-based collaboration between congregations and grassroots organizations, and the Voter Empowerment Project, connecting skilled, remote volunteers with nonprofits focused on voting rights. During the 2020 election cycle, Vasu launched the ACLU of Georgia’s Poll Worker Recruitment and Deputy Registrar Programs to train and place thousands of lawyers, IT-savvy professionals, and younger election workers in polling places across the state during the COVID-19 pandemic. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
