About HB 481
“This bill has Big Government criminalizing the most intimate decision women and couples make and flies in the face of 50 years of U.S. Supreme Court precedent,” said Andrea Young, Executive Director of the ACLU of Georgia.
HB 481 is a bill that would ban abortion and create new legal rights in all respects including the census, taxes, and child support starting at the time cardiac activity becomes detectable. The bill now requires Gov. Kemp's signature to become law.
Georgia has one of the worst maternal death rates in the nation. And the most recent data indicates that black women are almost three times as likely to die from childbirth as white women are. This is morally outrageous.
Lastly, this bill is going to cost taxpayers millions of dollars, because when federal courts strike it down, guess who's going to pay for the legal bills? Not the politicians who passed it, but the Georgia taxpayer.
