The ten-year census is getting underway, which means that our state legislators will be re-drawing the lines of the districts where they serve. Every 10 years, Georgia politicians draw legislative districts that skew election results that leave out the voices of Georgia citizens. This is called “gerrymandering” and fails to represent the many voices of Georgians throughout our state.
Once again, legislators will be drawing district lines to protect their own seats, protect the status quo, and/or to benefit the political party in power. This is unfair, and WE must end it!
Democracy requires sunshine, and government processes require transparency.
It is time to pass comprehensive standards for drawing the lines for legislative districts and to require that this process be conducted out in the open for all to see.
