WHY
A new film from Brave New Films highlighting personal stories of voter suppression and disenfranchisement in Georgia’s 2018 election will premiere on the evening of September 24, National Voter Registration Day, at the Auburn Avenue Research Library in downtown Atlanta. Suppressed: The Fight to Vote features experts, poll watchers, and everyday Georgians speaking to the reality of voter suppression and the threat it poses in 2020.
Produced in partnership with community organizations including ACLU of Georgia, Fair Fight, and New Georgia Project, Suppressed highlights the experiences of Georgia voters who endured long lines, inaccurate record-keeping and blatant discrimination as they attempted to cast their votes.
The film is the latest from Robert Greenwald, president of Brave New Films and director of award-winning documentaries, including Making a Killing, Outfoxed, Iraq for Sale and Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price.
Georgia voters featured in Suppressed will participate in a panel discussion following the screening and moderated by Black Voters Matter co-founder Cliff Albright. Robert Greenwald and special guests will deliver remarks.
