WHY
To protect the sacred, constitutional right to vote for all Georgians by opposing Senate Bill 363 because it
•eliminates essential weekend voting options,
•limits the hours an Early Voting site can be open including a voting day on the weekend,
•creates voter confusion, and
•stifles voter turnout.
“Senate Bill 363 takes away the days and hours Georgians now have to exercise their sacred, constitutional right to vote,” stated Andrea Young, Executive Director of the ACLU of Georgia. “This bill hurts any Georgian who works long hours, travels long distances to and from work, and is particularly harmful to communities of color. This is un-American. All Georgians deserve the time to have their voices heard at the ballot box. That is how our democracy thrives as we dare to make a more perfect union in our state and nation.”
“Sunday voting offers a common-sense correction to low voter turnout. It provides ordinary Georgia families who cannot so easily get to the polls on Election Day, an additional opportunity to exercise that basic and sacred American right - the right to vote,” said Reverend Dr. Raphael Warnock, Senior Pastor of the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.
“It is obvious that this bill is not about saving money or fairness as the proponents of this bill claim, but it is really about preventing people, Black people, from participating in our democracy,” stated Helen Butler, Executive Director of the Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda. “In this day and age, you would think that people would focus on issues and let voters decide but instead they continually attempt to limit voter participation.”
