Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed an overhaul of the state’s election system into law Thursday, shortly after the measure received approval from the Georgia General Assembly.
The nearly 100-page law adds an identification requirement for absentee voting and could allow state takeovers of county election management.
It also expands early voting in some counties, while banning organizations from handing out food or drinks to voters waiting in line at polling locations.
The measure has received swift pushback from voting-rights organizations and Democratic lawmakers who say the law is a new form of voter suppression.
On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look with Rose Scott,” Andrea Young, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia, joined the program to share her response to the new law.
