You'll receive legislative updates, events, and other opportunities to support civil liberties during the 2026 legislative session in Georgia.
ACLU of Georgia’s legislative agenda for 2026 ranges from defending free speech and privacy to advancing reproductive justice, criminal legal reform, and voting rights.
Speech & Privacy: The First and Fourth Amendments, guaranteeing the rights to free speech and privacy, are our bedrock principles. Our legislative advocacy is centered on protecting free speech, freedom of association, protest rights, and taking on threats to our privacy created by fast-evolving technologies.
Voting Rights: Our democracy works best when all citizens can participate and have their voices heard. Our legislative advocacy is centered on challenging voter suppression tactics and expanding access to the ballot box for all citizens.
Criminal Legal Reform: Georgia has one of the highest per-capita rates of people under correctional control in the nation. Our legislative advocacy is centered on challenging ineffective, costly pre-trial and sentencing practices and promoting a vision of public safety that keeps our communities healthy, home, and whole.
Reproductive Justice: Deciding when and whether to grow a family is a personal, private decision that should not be made by politicians. Our legislative advocacy is centered on challenging limits on reproductive healthcare and enacting supportive policies to address Georgia’s maternal mortality crisis.
Each year, we review hundreds of bills introduced in the Georgia Legislature for civil liberties implications, identifying those bills that we are going to advocate for or against and developing strategies accordingly.
We educate legislators and the public about ACLU-GA positions, draft legislation on priority issues, lobby on bills affecting civil liberties, testify or arrange for testimony on bills, and build coalitions to pursue pro-active legislative initiatives or battle anti-civil liberties legislation.
Lawmakers are in the legislature to work for YOU as a Georgia citizen. You don’t have to sit and hope for the best from afar. Get involved! It’s OUR house, and open to every Georgian.
