WHAT
The ACLU of Georgia and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) Georgia State Office have teamed up on “I Got 5 on It” a get-out-the-vote campaign, to increase civic participation this election cycle. The campaign’s goal is to make sure as many people as possible show up to vote during early voting and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5.

The joint voting campaign will include a screening of the documentary film “Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy.” Following the film, ACLU of Georgia and SPLC Georgia State Office will host a Q&A session with Duke University Professor Nancy MacLean, author of the multi-award-winning book “Democracy in Chains.”

“I Got 5 on It” will continue with five weeks of action from October 1 through Election Day. During this period, participants will volunteer as an individual, group, or organization to engage with five people each and discuss the importance of voting, voting early, and remind at least five other people to vote early or on Election Day. The campaign aims to connect with over 10,000 voters across at least 100 counties in Georgia.

“We are doing everything we can to ensure that every Georgian can vote their values,” says Fallon McClure, deputy director of policy and advocacy, ACLU of Georgia.

“We’re excited to support ACLU of Georgia to help voters mobilize their friends and family members to the polls,” says Yterenickia “YT” Bell, state director of the SPLC’s Georgia State Office. “Black and Latino voters know that the freedom to vote is the most basic constitutional right we have, and we either use it or lose it. That’s why Georgia’s got now to embrace our power to make change in our communities and realize the hopes, dreams and freedoms of our families this election.”
