"The State of Georgia currently has unfettered discretion to hide parts of the execution process from the media and the public. At the very least, Georgia's free speech and press rights demand that the State justify its restrictions on witness access, instead of just unilaterally impose them without any check. Executions are a grave exercise of governmental power and the public relies on the media to provide critical oversight," said Cory Isaacson, legal director, ACLU of Georgia.
