On June 28, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Georgia, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit on behalf of plaintiffs, including doctors, health care providers, and their patients challenging Georgia’s abortion ban, set to take effect on January 1, 2020. The law bans abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy, before many people even know they are pregnant. The ACLU of Georgia filed a motion for preliminary injunctive relief, which was granted on October 1, 2019. The ACLU of Georgia also filed a motion for summary judgment on February 20, 2020.

Updates:
  • After Dobbs, CA11 reversed the injunction and allowed the Ban to go into effect.
