“House Bill 1 would have a chilling effect on the important protections Georgia’s public colleges and universities have to bar discrimination. This bill would roll out the red carpet for certain types of student organizations to discriminate and to do so with impunity and at taxpayer expense: that is wrong,” said Christopher Bruce, political director of the ACLU of Georgia. “The American ideals of free speech must not be used as a sword for discrimination, but that is what House Bill 1 attempts to permit.”
