WHY
Georgia’s over-incarceration of its citizens has had a long-term negative impact on families, communities, and the allocation of taxpayers’ dollars. Gov. Nathan Deal recently signed Senate Bill 407 into law as part of the reform of the state’s criminal justice system, but more needs to be done.
TOPICS
Bail Reform
Community Reentry
Parole Reform
Prosecutorial Reform
Sentencing Reform
The Roundtable will focus on how Athens-Clarke County can usher in the ACLU’s Campaign for Smart Justice, an unprecedented, multiyear effort to reduce the jail and prison population by 50% and to combat the racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
