ATLANTA – The ACLU of Georgia sent a letter to the Cobb County Board of Elections & Registration about their illegal rejection of an electronically transmitted request for an absentee ballot.

Although a resident used his Gmail account to send the required information to obtain an absentee ballot as directed by the Cobb County website, the server responded, “Message blocked – Your message to [email protected] has been blocked.” The resident had to use an alternate email address which then allowed him to obtain an absentee ballot.

Because Georgia citizens are currently voting, the letter requested that the technical issue be resolved immediately.
“For many Georgia citizens, an absentee ballot is the only way that they can vote,” stated Sean J. Young, Legal Director of the ACLU of Georgia. “We do not know how many registered voters the Cobb County system prevented from obtaining an absentee ballot. Even one instance is one too many when it comes to our sacred, constitutional right to vote.”
