On Monday, February 27, the ACLU of Georgia testified in favor of Senate Resolution 6 and Senate Resolution 7, saying that the proposed constitutional amendment to create an independent bipartisan redistricting commission would ensure transparency and protect the voting power of minority communities.

In testimony before the Georgia Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, ACLU of Georgia Political Affairs Director Christopher Bruce said that “fair and equal representation is the cornerstone of American democracy, and as the state’s guardian of constitutional rights, the ACLU of Georgia is committed to ensuring that redistricting upholds the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of equality for every Georgian.”
