Civil Rights Advocates Oppose "Adios Amazon" Bills Press Conference
The Coverdell Legislative Office Building, Room 514

Good morning, everyone.
The ACLU of Georgia champions our nation's most cherished and sacred principles - from Freedom of Speech to Freedom of Religion, from Due process of the law to Equality under the law, and from the sacred constitutional right to vote to the cherished right to move about freely. The ACLU of Georgia passionately believes that our state and nation must always live up to our reputation as a beacon of hope, fairness, and opportunity for all.
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the administration's first un-American, unconstitutional ban on travel by people of the Muslim faith. The ACLU of Georgia remains strong in our fight to protect our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers of the Muslim faith.
The proposed bills that my colleagues and I are discussing here today are equally un-American and would negatively impact Georgia's economy, wipe out opportunities for our state to attract potential economic powerhouses like Amazon, and betray the strong bonds we have with our family members, neighbors, co-workers, and employees from around the world who now call Georgia home.
The combination of the proposed bills betrays our nation's fundamental principles and values. Georgia has serious work to do to continue the journey to create a more perfect union. Because of our work together, Georgia is the best state in the nation when it comes to doing business. And Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world, because Georgia has a welcome mat for the world.

The ACLU of Georgia strongly stands with our coalition partners in rejecting these un-American bills and asks that our legislators keep faith with the best ideals that have historically made our nation the envy throughout the world. Thank you.
