ATLANTA— Today, the Georgia House approved Senate Bill 63, which expands the number of low-level offenses requiring cash bail. The advancement of this bill is a big step back from years of criminal justice reform in the state of Georgia.

The ACLU of Georgia issues the following statement in response to the bill:

“Cash bail systems hurt people who cannot afford to pay and do not make communities safer. The state of Georgia is moving backward in terms of people being equal before the law regardless of how much money they have.”
