ATLANTA - This afternoon, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr asked the 11
th
Circuit Court of Appeals to vacate an injunction of Georgia’s 6-week abortion ban issued in
SisterSong v. Kemp and allow the ban to go into effect in Georgia. The Court of Appeals instead ordered the parties to provide further briefing on the impact of today’s Supreme Court decision within 21 days.
“Despite Attorney General Carr’s race to the courthouse, abortion is safe and legal in Georgia for the near future. The ACLU of Georgia will continue to defend the rights of Georgia’s women from forced pregnancy,” said Andrea Young, Executive Director, ACLU of Georgia.
