ATLANTA – The ACLU of Georgia is deeply disappointed by the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that eviscerates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and struck down a map that provided fair representation for Black voters.
The ACLU of Georgia is committed to expanding voting rights for every citizen in Georgia. While the United States Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais undermines a key tool for ensuring equal access to the ballot and makes it more difficult to protect the ability of Black Georgians to choose their representatives, we will continue to fight for fair representation.
We are expanding our Voter Access Project and advocacy in counties and communities across the state. Early voting has already begun in Georgia for the May 19 primary election, and we will work diligently to make voting easy and accessible for all.
"I urge every eligible voter to use their right to vote. The Georgia General Assembly draws legislative districts. Every member of the General Assembly is on the ballot this year,” said Andrea Young, Executive Director of the ACLU of Georgia.
