Deltas gather on the steps on the Georgia State Capitol.

To kick off this week of legislative action, we joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority today for the 2023 Delta Day at the Capitol. ACLU of Georgia staff helped plan the event, during which members of the historic sorority were fired up to help advocate for social change and impactful public policy.

Our Executive Director Andrea Young gave a keynote speech. Policy and Advocacy Director Christopher Bruce provided an update on the legislation making its way through Georgia’s General Assembly so far this session.

House Resolution 59 was recently introduced in the Georgia Legislature, which recognizes Monday, February 27, 2023, as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Day at the Capitol. The sorority is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities worldwide. It was founded in 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University  and has grown to a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominantly Black college-educated women.
