The American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia brought its Freedom School volunteer training to Douglas County at the Dog River Public Library on Saturday, August 26. The Douglas Women Unite hosted the event which is part of a series of volunteer trainings the ACLU of Georgia organizes around the state. Fallon Traylor, ACLU of Georgia’s Policy Advocate, equipped local participants with practical skills needed to advance civil rights and defend the Constitution in their communities.

“It’s important for Georgia citizens to know how to protect their civil liberties. That’s why our trainings are so critical in furthering justice and equality,” said Andrea Young, ACLU of Georgia Executive Director. “We encourage everyone with an interest in civil liberties to join us and learn more about becoming an ACLU of Georgia volunteer.”

Volunteers received training on specific skills, such as how to monitor legislation, monitor court proceedings, lobby their elected officials, and educate their friends and neighbors about their constitutional rights.
